Michael Bennett

Executive Vice President and General Counsel

Michael is a legal expert whose considerable experience in negotiating and documenting real estate and financing transactions ensures our customers receive documents tailored to their specific needs.


Prior to co-founding STORE Capital in 2011, Michael spent six years as the Senior Vice President of Operations at the publicly traded real estate investment trust, Spirit Finance Corporation. There, he was directly involved in structuring and closing transactions, including the largest retail sale-leaseback transaction in the United States in 2006.


His legal background includes serving as the Vice President and General Counsel of Farmer Mac, a government-sponsored entity providing financing to America’s agricultural industry, and working in a private New York-based law firm concentrating on complex structured finance transactions.


In 2017, Michael was named winner of the Arizona Corporate Counsel of the Year Award in the Public Company (medium) category. The award is sponsored by Az Business Magazine in partnership with the Arizona Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel and the State Bar of Arizona.

Michael received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and Foreign Affairs from Hampden-Sydney College with Summa Cum Laude honors, and his J.D. degree from the University of Virginia Law School.
