STORE Capital Opens Doors with a Virtual Externship

The COVID-19 pandemic’s widespread impact has caused interruptions in all facets of life and business. Summer internships nationwide were cancelled preventing career-minded individuals from gaining real-life educational and professional experience. Please click here to see a video recap.

STORE Capital addressed the challenge by offering an opportunity and a valuable lesson by example for young professionals on how to adapt to an ever-changing environment. Promptly establishing a Virtual Externship powered by the clever use of social media and online technology, the company was able to host a unique, online event for those who had summer internships cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

STORE Capital’s Virtual Externship, a two-day career development event designed for individuals interested in finance and real estate, provided participants with an opportunity to learn from the company’s subject matter experts. Open to current college students and recent graduates, the event particularly emphasized the company’s diversity and inclusion efforts by encouraging the participation of students from underrepresented backgrounds.

A total of 124 participants from 54 colleges, 22 states, and 5 countries participated in the event, in addition to more than 20 STORE Capital employees who participated as moderators, presenters, and panelists. The program was conceived, developed, and presented by STORE Capital employees from several of the company’s departments and areas of expertise, many of whom had positive college internship experiences in their initial professional development.

The event content focused on real estate transaction processes ranging from acquisitions to dispositions. Panel discussions also emphasized relevant topics such as Women in Finance and Diversity in the Workplace, Real Estate Finance: Past, Present, and Future, and a Wealth Creation Seminar presentation from Chris Volk, CEO of STORE Capital.

STORE Capital’s Virtual Externship is an extension of STORE Capital’s Internship Program, which is open to all college students and recent graduates across all majors and backgrounds. The Virtual Externship’s success may lead to similar virtual events in the future. Details will be posted on the company’s website and social media.

Motivated applicants who are interested in learning about business and who possess strong writing and critical thinking skills are encouraged to apply for STORE Capital’s Internship Program. Company offices are based in Scottsdale, AZ and our employees come from all over and have very diverse academic backgrounds.
